What is ICON Direct?
ICON Direct is the University of Iowa's initiative for ordering digital content from specific publishers and delivering this content to students and faculty.
Inclusive access, also known in some schools as digital direct or all students acquire is a model of course content delivery that provides access to eTexts and online learning platforms (such as Mastering Chemistry or MyMathLab) automatically to the students enrolled in specific courses. The inclusive aspect of the model means that every student enrolled has the same content available on the first day of class. By delivering content through the ICON course site, ICON Direct ensures all students and faculty have access to their content in a common, easily accessible location.
Instructors decide whether or not ICON Direct eligible materials are appropriate for their course. If you are responsible for textbook selection and would like to know more about ICON Direct, please contact ICON-Direct@uiowa.edu

The RedShelf eReader used with ICON Direct eTexts will be undergoing scheduled maintenance. Users will not be able to access the eReader during the maintenance window.
The RedShelf team will perform maintenance and updates to ensure the reliability of the eReader platform. Two important functions will be impacted during this window:
- Users will be unable to access their materials on the RedShelf eReader*
- POS and online transactions will not complete**
*PLEASE NOTE: Access to offline materials will remain available. To access materials during the maintenance period, the user can download the content to access in Offline Mode (in accordance with individual publishers' content availability agreements) on or before Friday, March 17. Instructions for checking your eBook's offline access allowance and activating an offline session can be found here.
**Point of Sale and online transactions are not core functions of ICON Direct RedShelf access.

The RedShelf eReader is experiencing performance degradation. Load times are slower than expected and periodic 500 errors/messages are appearing. The vendor is investigating.
RedShelf has a scheduled maintenance window for the eReader. The eReader will be unavailable for approximately 30 minutes.

The ICON Direct Order Tool and the Unizin Engage eReader will undergo maintenance with a brief period of impacted functionality.

The Engage eReader is experiencing issues with loading textbooks within ICON. Unizin engineers are working to resolve this.
ICON Direct will receive infrastructure updates. The updates may disrupt access to EPUBs in Engage during the maintenance window.
Unizin’s overnight fix has resolved the issue.
The ICON Direct Order Tool is experiencing issues with the Fall 2020 ordering catalog. Support staff are working with Unizin Support to resolve the issue.
ICON Direct orders can still be placed by using the "Content Request" feature.
Pearson will be updating several of their systems to improve performance and security.
All MyLab, MyLabsPlus, Mastering, Modified Mastering, Learning Studio, Revel, eText, Learning Applications, Pearson Writer, Pearson Reader, Statcrunch, Coachmarks, Feedback, Registrar Reports, and Lever courses will be completely inaccessible.
Please do not try to access or work in these courses during the maintenance window.
